Why use CNY Elevator Consultants?
It is required that Design Professionals to be proficient in the types of work in which they are engaged. Elevators are one of those critical building systems that just don't fit into any category (notice its placement in Division 14 rather than the MEP Divisions.) Traditionally elevator design has amounted to little more than a "provide as required," indication and a couple of architectural drawings showing shaft dimensions. This approach inevitably leads to the actual elevator design being left up to the contractors.
When is a consultant necessary?
It is common on large projects to hire a Lighting consultant, Code consultant, MEP consultant, AV consultant, Kitchen consultant, Landscape consultant, Structural engineer, etc. The Elevator consultant is understandably often the first name scratched off the list. But with even moderately sized elevator systems now approaching the quarter million dollar mark each, leaving the final product up to the low bidder is becoming less attractive, and isn't always in the owner's best interest. Equally important is the complexity of integration with other building systems. If you've been in the building construction business for any length of time, you know first hand that the elevator invariably ends up being a serious issue when it comes to final inspections and occupancy. Often the issues are related to other trades such as electrical, fire alarm, fire protection, which aren't coordinated with Division 14. Not that finger pointing isn't amusing at times, but it does tend to be inefficient at best.
